London Days 1&2

Saturday, April 6th - Sunday April 7th 2019

We're off on another adventure! Claire is on Spring Break so we decided to take her on a solo trip with Mom & Dad while Greta and Hugo stay with Oma and Opa. London was an easy choice for several reasons: 1)No language barrier, 2) Lots of reasonably-priced flights with reasonable lengths from Seattle, and 3) We have friends to visit and stay with! Our friends, the Wheelers, recently moved to London for a family adventure and their kids are friends with Claire.

We had a direct flight with Virgin Atlantic, leaving Saturday afternoon and arriving in London on Sunday morning. It was really nice not traveling with a stroller or infant-in-arms. As an added bonus, we didn't pay for seat assignments but they sat us all together right behind the bulkhead so we had monstrous amounts of legroom. Claire did awesome. She slept at least half of the flight, and then near the end of the flight one of the flight attendants let Claire put on a Virgin Atlantic jacket and hand out candy to all the passengers. It was adorable.

Steve picked us up from the airport and we headed to their place in Harpenden, a small town northwest of London. We had a chill afternoon, attempting to rest/recover from the overnight flight. Claire had lots of fun seeing her old friends and playing. Before dinner, we went for a walk into the small downtown area, about a mile walk in each direction. Claire complained quite a bit about the walking but managed to do it without much of a problem. We stopped at a duck pond along the way and the kids all fed the ducks and threw things in the water. That was Claire's favorite event of the day. We stopped at an ATM to get some pounds (cheaper than normal, thanks to the Brexit fiasco!) and enjoyed our stroll and the chance to wake up and stretch our legs.

We enjoyed a leisurely evening, eating traditional "Shepherd's Pie", watching conference, and playing games. Tomorrow the real fun begins!
